Pre-purchase inspection

A reliable and independent inspection

When purchasing a vessel, it is essential to have its condition thoroughly inspected. A pre-purchase survey is not only a wise move, but also a legal obligation for the buyer to identify any hidden defects. Koopman Maritiem offers you an independent and reliable pre-purchase survey, so that you can make your decision with complete confidence.

Koopman Maritiem carries out a detailed inspection, during which we examine all the ship’s key components. Below are some of the key aspects we inspect during the survey:

  • Hull: We carry out moisture and wall thickness measurements to assess the condition of the hull, both above and below the waterline. We examine the propulsion system (propeller shaft and propeller), the rudder, the keel-to-hull joint, the coating, corrosion and the condition of the hull plating.

  • Deck, superstructure and cockpit: We check the condition of the deck, superstructure and cockpit, including the teak (where applicable), for signs of wear or damage.

  • Interior of the hull: We inspect the inside of the hull for any defects or imperfections.

  • Rigging: Where applicable, we check the condition of the rigging.

  • Fuel and water tanks: The tanks are inspected for leaks or damage.

  • Technical systems: We carry out a thorough assessment of the engine(s) (main engine and generator), as well as other key technical systems.

  • Interior: We check the condition of the interior and its comfort.

  • Cosmetic and aesthetic aspects: We assess the external condition of the vessel, including any cosmetic defects that may affect its value.
